Harry Potter Travel Posters

Completely geeking out about these Harry Potter travel posters. They were made by Caroline Hadilaksono and she explains her thinking behind them here.

Quote of the Day

"One of the things you learn as a college president is that if an undergraduate is wearing a tie and jacket on Thursday afternoon at three o'clock, there are two possibilities. One is that they're looking for a job and have an interview; the other is that they are an asshole."

Apple Sells Apps Faster Than McDonald’s Sells Hamburgers

Apple recently announced that they’d sold just over 15 billion apps in just three years, which got ZDNet’s Eric Lai doing some number crunching, and it turns out that the App Store has just passed a big milestone: Apple’s now selling apps faster than McDonald’s can sell hamburgers.

That’s actually nine times faster than McDonald’s sells hamburgers. Of course, a lot here has to do with delivery method: if McDonald’s could squirt out cheeseburger’s through a smartphone screen, I’m guessing they could match Apple’s App Store numbers. That’s one thing to look forward to in the future, right?

Alert - Just So We Don't Get Confused As To The Source Of the US Problem

Source of Debt

Apple Has More Dollars and Cents Than the US Government

Apple Has More Dollars and Cents Than the US Government

You know something is wrong when the US Government has an operating cash balance of $73.8 billion at the end of the day and Apple has $76.3 billion.

Thanks To Super WiFi, Your Next MacBook or iPad Might Be Able To Connect To Your Home WiFi Up To 60 Miles Away

Frustrated by Apple’s reticence to release a Mac with a built-in 3G modem for everywhere internet connectivity? Don’t sweat it, Apple may have something else in mind: Super WiFi that would allow your MacBook to connect with your Time Capsule from up to 62 miles away.
Best of all? That tech just got one step closer to reality.

So you know the standard 802.11n WiFi that you can find in every Apple product, from your MacBook to your iPhone? The IEEE — which is the standards organization that governs all of WiFi — has just officially published WiFi’s next-gen standard, IEEE 802.22.
Utilizing white space frequencies that were previously hogged up by analog television broadcasts, IEEE 802.22 will allow you to transfer data at speeds up to 22Mbps to devices as far as 100 kilometers from the nearest transmitter.
The possibilities are obvious: as long as you are within an hour’s drive of your house, you could use Super WiFi to connect to the internet on your iPhone, iPad or MacBook.
Of course, standards being published are much different than hardware shipping, and we may have a while to wait before the first Super WiFI MacBooks start pumping out, but with the publication of the spec, Super WiFi just got a big step closer to being a part of all of our lives.

Football Legend Cristiano Ronaldo To Be Used As ECB Collateral

We were pretty much speechless when we read this - it sure puts guarantees by Noyer, Trichet and all the other bureaumonkeys that the ECB does not accept just any collateral in perspective. From Presseurop.eu: "The most expensive footballer in history may now be used to guarantee the solvency of a Spanish bank. “Ronaldo in the bailout fund,” headlines Süddeutsche Zeitung. The daily reports that the Bankia group of savings banks, which financed Real Madrid’s acquisition of the Portuguese player, is now seeking to borrow funds from the European Central Bank. In response to the ECB’s demand for guarantees, Bankio are putting up… Ronaldo and the Brazilian Kaka, who also plays for the Madrid football club. In 2009, Real borrowed 76.5 million euros to pay transfer fees of 100 millions euros to Manchester United, and 60 million to Milan AC."
“Could we see a situation in which the ECB seizes one of the players?“ wonders the Munich daily. “In theory, it is possible. Bankia would first have to become insolvent. Thereafter, Real would have to default on its loans, which are secured by advertising and television revenues. It goes without saying that Real Madrid is in debt to the tune of several million euros. However, in Spain football clubs have a history of obtaining publicly funded bailouts — just like the country’s banks.”
This is beyond even The Onion's (and even Zero Hedge's) level of sarcasm.
There is nothing that can be added to this insanity. Furthermore, the fact that the "collateral" most likely has a virulent case of Paris Hiltonitis which will infect all the other worthless collateral, likely leading to the latest and greatest reality TV show, only adds to the complete farce that the global ponzi scheme has now become.

World’s Largest Stop-Motion Animation

World’s Largest Stop-Motion Animation:

Gulp, the world’s largest stop-motion animation, was shot using a crane-mounted array of three Nokia N8 smartphones on location at Pendine Beach in South Wales by Sumo Science at Aardman. Capturing the record breaking 11,000 square foot set was a piece of cake for the N8′s 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics. Definitely check out the making of featurette below. The scale is truly impressive. [via HuffPost]
